Opportunity knocks but once
by Abraham Khoureis, Ph.D., M.A.
“Opportunity knocks but once” is a famous proverb. You may have heard of it, or, of this one: “an optimist sees an opportunity in every difficulty. The pessimist sees a difficulty in every opportunity.” However, my message to you is, when an opportunity comes your way, grab it, seize it and don’t let it go.
But, what is an opportunity?
An opportunity is “a favorable circumstance with conditions meant to ease the attainment of a goal or an objective” (Khoureis, 2018).
An opportunity is “a favorable circumstance with conditions meant to ease the attainment of a goal or an objective” (Khoureis, 2018).
This favorable circumstance materializes when the right environment is created. This right environment I call the “opportune time”.
The opportune time is the time when the opportunity is seized, about to be seized, or, had been seized.
Types of opportunities
Opportunities come in different shapes and forms and at interval periods of time.
Opportunity of a life time: The primary opportunity we have to glee over is the opportunity of birth. This is our “opportune time” to make our being alive a daily routine of creating our mission of improving our own environment and the lives of others.
How do we do that?
Every opportunity has its own conditions and steps of how to seize it and own it.
Success of seizing an opportunity depends on the luck, combined with the intuition, attitude, skills and experiences of the recipient of that opportunity.
“Opportunity knocks but once,” have you seized yours yet?
